Year-round average air temperature is 28C (82F), water temperature is 26C (79F). However, if wind is strong then the waves are messy and only kitesurfing will work. In the summer season the wind direction changes. In between: Puttalam Lagoon, with perfect flat water, it's great for downwind trips and kite safari, freeride and camping on islands.

Once on the little island, we set up our kites to start for 10km downwind. Kalpitiya lagoon is a good spot for learning. On the days there is no wind you can plan other fun activities; this way you make your time in Sri Lanka more memorable. Diverse kitesurfing sports from flat lagoons to wavy Indian Ocean. A sand bank separate the sea from the lagoon so one one side you can enjoy the wave in the indian Ocean and on the other side the flat water in the lagoon. As some say, Dolphins and Kite Surfing are what attracts people to the beautiful coast and inviting golden beaches of Kalpitiya.
