Bikaner is one of the historical cities of Rajasthan in India. Located at an altitude of 242 meters above sea level, Bikaner is a land of forts and palaces. It is situated amid the hot Thar desert of Rajasthan at a distance of 240 km from Jodhpur city. Bikaner was found by Maharaja Bika Ji in 1459 AD, which was earlier known by the name of Jungladesh.

This architectural masterpiece made of red sandstone was designed by Sir Swinton Jacob, which is visible in its architectural fusion on Mughal, Rajput and European styles. Its latticework and intricate filigree work showcase the delicacy of craftsmanship. A library is housed inside the Lalgarh palace which has the largest collection of gold, silver and copper plaques, and the original manuscripts written in Sanskrit on parchments.

Lalgarh palace has been converted into a luxury heritage hotel. There is also Shri Sadul museum inside the palace which houses huge collection of manuscripts, books, photographs and albums.

Junagarh Palace

Junagarh palace is an another palace which is a must visit site during Bikaner tour. It is one of those palaces in India, which was never conquered by the enemy army. It was built in 1953 by Raja Rai Singh. The palace has been built with red sandstone and marble, and has been decorated with gold polish, mirror work, enamel work and lime plaster. It is one of the rarest forts in India, which has not been built on the hilltop. Ganga Golden Jubilee Museum

Ganga Golden Jubilee Museum was established in 1937 on the golden jubilee celebrations of Maharaja Ganga Singh. It also exhibits collection of miniature paintings, carpets, pottery terracotta, armoury and ancient coins.

Bhandeshwar Jain Temples

Bhandeshwar Jain Temple is the oldest existing structure of Bikaner, which attract a large number of devotees on their travel to Bikaner. The temple, which is dedicated to 23rd Jain Tirthankara Parshvanathji, was built and named after them by two brothers Bhandeshwar and Sandheswar. It was built near to Laxminath Temple in 1514 AD. The temple has been carved in white marble and red sandstone and is famous for its structural beauty, statues and wall paintings.

Karni Mata Temple, Deshnoke

Karni Mata Temple is situated at a distance of about 30 km from Bikaner city at Deshnoke. The main attraction of the temple is the presence of a large number of brown rats in the temple. The temple was constructed by Ganga Singh, the former Maharaja of Bikaner. It has been constructed by using marble and its architecture has been intricately worked upon by the artisans. It is also one of the sought after sites by visitors during their travel to Bikaner.
